Unknown Jewish property

The records of the American investigation authorities in Germany and the SNK papers expressly state that some pieces used to belong to Jews. It appears that there were clear indications that this was the case, but strangely enough they were never recorded. There are no trails leading to the previous owner unless the art works can be identified as objects which were reported.

The details for an anonymous 17th century rocky landscape in the SNK records state that Dienststelle Mühlmann, which was involved in both purchasing and looting, had 'acquired' the painting from a Dutch Jew. The painting cannot be identified among the thousands of art works for which report forms were filled in after the war. Investigation into the provenance is therefore hopeless, unless the painting can be identified by family members or acquaintances of the previous owners.
